When you say the word "Amazon," most individuals think of Prime and online
retail store. Many associate Amazon with fast, free shipping and crazy
good deals instead of the Cloud commputing behemoth that it is.
The truth is that Jeff Bezos isn't the richest man in the world because
of Amazon's retail practices, but rather AWS or Amazon Web Services.
In fact, the retail income of Amazon is a small percentage of their
total income.
Domestically, Amazon only has an income of Seven Billion with expenses
totalling over 134 billion. Internationally, Amazon even loses money from
retail operations. That's how huge web services are for Amazon.

In general, AWS has always been dominate in cloud-based computing, even when
competitors include giants such as Microsoft, Google, etc....
This because Amazon had a massive headstart against its rivals.
To illustrate, AWS was first launched in March of 2006. To contrast, the next
big company to even dabble in cloud computing was Google in 2008 with Google
App Engine, which even then, was a predecessor to their actual platform
Google Cloud
Even IBM's public Cloud platform didn't go live until 2009. And Microsoft
Azure,which is their Cloud platform, didn't start until 2010.
A full 4 years after AWS was launched.

The company had a huge headstart thanks to AWS. As it stands, Jezz Bezos and
Amazon are still focused on continuing to expand Amazon and their web services.
They're doing this by purchasing big brands like whole foods and pillpack, and
by providing one of the best cloud based platform currently available.
For instance, AWS allows users to test certain services for 12 months.
This includes cloud computing, cloud storage, and relational database
service all for free for an entire year. At the end of the trial,users more
than likely keep their services and start paying for it without the need
to import anything.
Their datacenters operate in clusters of "Availability Zones" that make up a
region. In the USA alone, AWS has 6 regions made up of a total of 19
availability zones. They have even more datacenters in the form of Edge
locations, such as in Texas or Florida. Furthermore, this doesn't even
include international databse centers in places like Europe or Asia.
